Making import declarations from 1 October 2022
From 1 October 2022 all import declarations need to be made using the Customs Declarations Service (CDS).
We understand you use CDS for some, but not all, of your declarations. To help you make the move there’s lots more help and support available on GOV.UK and on YouTube.
3. CHIEF declarants still not subscribed to CDS
Move to CDS or apply for a temporary extension to use CHIEF
Making import declarations from 1 October 2022
From 1 October 2022 import declarations need to be made using the Customs Declarations Service (CDS).
You need to act now and subscribe to CDS. To help you make the move there’s lots more help and support available on GOV.UK and on YouTube.
For all of the above situations, if you know you can’t be ready for 1st October, you should use a customs agent who can help you.
Not going to move in time for 1 October 2022?
If you are unable to use CDS for all your import declarations or use a customs agent, HMRC is allowing CHIEF badge holders to seek permission for a short extension to use CHIEF beyond 30 September, based on a clear business reason.
You need to apply using an online form and further details are available on Gov.UK.
Those that successfully apply for an extension will be provided with help and support to move to the Customs Declaration Service as soon as possible.
If you continue to use CHIEF from 1 October 2022 without permission, HMRC reserves the right to remove your access.
