CNS is migrating our legacy Community Platform Compass onto the Global CNS Community platform during 2023 and 2024, Compass will therefore be known as CNS Port Community System (PCS) moving forward.

This transition is part of a wider strategy to implement best in class technology across all products CNS provides

This isn’t just an upgrade, this is driving the industry forward with a raft of new benefits for our customers in this migration:

  • Modern platform with new user interface and enhanced usability
  • Greater agility to respond to ongoing regulatory changes and customer requests for enhancements
  • More scope for customer integrations to their operating systems (e.g. ERP or TMS) to share data and manage the operational processes
  • Streamlined container claim process makes claiming containers quicker and easier
  • Flexible commercial release process which enables easier and more secure release of containers through the supply chain
  • Enhanced EDI features (e.g. CUSCAR amends) offers shipping lines and operators improved integration with their systems and reduced manual processing

Customers can expect the ability to complete everything they can do today with Legacy Compass with enhanced features. This will mean minimal disruption and a seamless transition for our customers.

Implementation Plan

Piloting will soon be underway at CNS sites with a phased roll out plan including, large Terminal Operating Sites by the end of the year and complete transition by 2025.

Why is CNS making these changes to the Compass Product?

We are upgrading to our global platform with newer cloud-based technology, for greater resilience, security and an improved user experience. Taking the best of what the Compass platform offers added to the experience of our global teams manging community systems in other regions to create a new improved platform for the UK Port Community.

What is changing?

You can use all the same functionality you are used to with Compass today but with some new smart features to improve you experience : Including; material design, self service registration, row selection, smart searches (including data validation), unsaved changes highlighted, favourite app facility, breadcrumbs, ability for amended data set to be saved, navigation bar, two status approach, confirmation and exception messages, iconography and location selection.


The biggest improvements include:


  • Modern platform with new user interface and usability enhancements.
  • Streamlined container claim process
  • Flexible commercial release
  • Future open APIs
  • Enhanced EDI features
Do we need to plan for any IT development?

The integrations we have with existing customer systems are not changing

How much is this going to cost?

No more than you pay today our Maritime Tariff, licencing and transaction model will remain the same.
